About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cover picture: Nuclear export of the HIV-1 protein Rev reconstituted in permeabilized cells. RevGFP (green) assembles into an export complex with the NES receptor Crm1 and the GTPase Ran, and undergoes translocation from nucleoli to the nuclear pore. The punctate signal at the nuclear envelope (yellow) reflects the overlap of RevGFP fluorescence (green) with the Cy3 detection (red) of RevGFP that has arrested on the cytoplasmic side of the nuclear pore. Release of the export complex from the nuclear pore requires NXT1 and RanBP1, as reported by Black et al., 141-155.
